To mark the occasion, the club invited members both past and present to the Herterich Stuben at the men's home ground in Solln for a day of festivities. As is tradition, the afternoon began with a mixed tournament featuring almost 70 players, with Team Yellow eventually being crowned champions after a gruelling few hours under the hot Munich sun.

Chairman Matteo Napoli summed it up best: “It was not about where we finished, it was about doing it together.” The chief organiser of the Amsterdam trip added: “This weekend was pure Rovers spirit – football, friends, and fun in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities.”

With stronger connections forged and plenty of stories to tell, the Rovers return to Munich recharged and ready for the season ahead – though a few may still be recovering from those late nights…

Open up the inaugural issue of UEFA's Queenzine, a fanzine dedicated to sharing stories from the world of women's football, and you'll spot a familiar logo amongst the pages.

With the inaugural issue centred around the city of Munich, it's only fitting that the Rovers were asked to participate. After all, the club has been deeply engrained within the football landscape in Munich for the last 30 years. During this time, the Rovers have grown into a tight-knit community, with our women's team in particular providing a welcoming atmosphere for those interested in a competitive yet fun environment.

We were delighted to share a bit of our club's history and future goals with Queenzine, helping to showcase the important role grassroots clubs play in our community. Anna Sophia did a brilliant job representing the club too, highlighting the welcoming culture, memorable team moments, and the sense of community that makes the Rovers special.

Darrell recently moved to Munich for work and was keen to continue his coaching journey with us. He brings valuable experience, having previously worked at the Preston North End academy and served as the head coach of Garstang FC. We're excited to have someone with his knowledge and background joining our setup.

Darrell will be working closely with A-Team coach Elias Nasralla and B-Team coaches Jamie Morris and Mikey Willcox to help run training sessions for both men's squads. His expertise will be a fantastic addition to our coaching staff, and we're confident he'll have a positive impact on our players come matchday.

The Keg Bar started sponsoring the Rovers in February 2025, and we’re excited to start turning it into our home base. Plans are underway to display some of our club trophies and memorabilia in the bar. It’s going to be a great spot to relax after training or a match, and with a free first drink for Rovers members, there’s even more reason to head over.

The Keg Bar is known for its fun quiz nights, live sports from around Europe and the USA, and karaoke, so there’s always something going on. We will be holding regular social events there, making it the perfect place for our team to get together off the pitch.

With no clubhouse of our own, The Keg Bar is set to become our home away from home — a place where we can relax, chat, and celebrate our wins or forget about our losses. We’re looking forward to plenty of good nights ahead and hope to see you there! 🍻

Two of the five serving board members stepped down. Chairman Michael Willcox concluded his six-year tenure as the club's leading figure to focus on his role as co-coach of the Men's B-Team. Known for his contributions as the St. Patrick's Day coordinator, Mike will continue representing MIRFC at Munich Irish Network meetings and assist in organising the annual Paddy's Day parade alongside his successor, Matteo Napoli. Matteo, an A-Team defender who joined the club in 2021, has taken on the chairman role after a knee injury earlier this year inspired him to contribute off the pitch as well.

After four years as Treasurer, A-Team centre-back Simone Moriconi passed the torch to Ladies' midfielder Carli Malone. A member of the Rovers since 2021, Carli has been an active participant in the Ladies' team, organising events and encouraging players to confirm their availability on time.

The other three board members - Vice Chairwoman Ella McGovern, Director of Football Matt Hardy, and Secretary Anna Sophia Vollmerhausen - were re-elected for another two-year term.

The club extends its huge thanks to Mike and Simone for their dedicated service and warmly welcomes Matteo and Carli to their new roles!

​The highlight for many visitors is the St. Patrick's Day parade on Sunday, the largest in mainland Europe, and one in which the Rovers proudly took part once again. Players from the men's, women's and Alte Herren teams came together and donned their green club gear as they joined more than 60 other clubs and associations in the procession from Münchner Freiheit down Ludwigsstrasse to Odeonsplatz. Joining them were also several friends (of the four-legged variety too) and family members, as well as several of the next generation of Rovers.

Whether pouring and serving pints of Augustiner and Guinness for the thousands of thirsty attendees at the bar, washing and delivering countless glasses to keep things ticking over, or helping with setting up and cleaning up after the event, the St. Patrick's Day weekend is always a busy one for the Rovers, as we aim to raise as much money as possible to help finance the running of the club. Fortunately, our dedicated members are always willing to pitch in wherever possible and help make the weekend a great success!

During an end-of-season curry in summer 2023 for the MIRFC men's teams just a 10-minute walk from the club's home ground in Forstenried, Tanvir struck up a conversation with some players and expressed not only his interest in trying out as a goalkeeper - something he eventually did to become the team's first-choice between the sticks - but also in his restaurant sponsoring the club. With the Alte Herren season drawing to a close and their kit in dire need of replacing, an opportunity had presented itself to explore a collaboration.

Director of Football Matt Hardy agreed a sponsorship deal for a brand new AH kit with Tanvir and Navjot, and in March 2024, just in time for the new AH season, the kit was ready to be unveiled with Taste of India's logo proudly adorning the front of the jersey. The partnership symbolises a new connection created for the Munich Irish Rovers in the local Forstenried community, as well as in the wider expat community, which the club so heavily relies on and seeks to bring together. It also offers a location for our Rovers family to come together, with a monthly Stammtisch planned at the Indian restaurant on Forstenrieder Allee. The players can very much look forward to indulging in some delicious and authentic Indian cuisine after a hard Friday night training session.

​Not only is there a new sponsor for the old boys' kit, but a new supplier was also brought into the fold. Instead of opting for another template jersey from a traditional sports brand, the kit was created in collaboration with spized, a custom sportswear manufacturer based in Cologne, allowing the club to come up with a unique design. Both the green and blue from the Rovers logo are integrated into the white shirt, the typical outfield colour for the Alte Herren, ​something that wouldn't be possible with an off-the-shelf jersey. All-inclusive printing also allowed for a tribute to be paid to former AH head coach Gary Ryan, who sadly passed away in January 2022 after a short battle with cancer, in the form of a permanent black armband.

Not even unexpected road closures due to heavy snowfall in South Tyrol could keep the team from completing the nearly five-hour journey south from Munich to the picturesque town of Rovereto, nestled in the Vallagarina valley at the southern edge of the Italian Alps.

As matchday dawned and the sun intermittently peeked out from behind the clouds, the Rovers made their way to U.S. Isera Calcio Femminile home ground, which offered stunning views of the surrounding mountains. A look at the grass pitch revealed the effect the chilly spring temperatures had on the playing surface – maybe white shorts weren't such a good idea – as the team made their way into the dressing room to get ready. A total of 14 players suited up, with others on the bench to offer support and, more crucially, keep track of substitutions. After posing for a joint team photo beforehand, the whistle blew to signal the start of the encounter between the hosts and their visitors from Munich!

Our ladies were playing their first competitive game since November, against opponents that have been busy preparing to pick up where they left off in the Eccellenza femminile, the fourth tier of women's football in Italy. Under head coach Luca Zorzutti, U.S.D. Isera have collected 25 points from nine games and sit top of the division, posing stiff competition for the Rovers. The hosts quickly made their quality known, and despite a brave fight from the Rovers, Isera would end the match victorious.

The result didn't put a damper on the trip, however, as both sides came together afterwards at the nearby clubhouse. With the Rovers' Italian contingent able to help translate when needed, the two teams parted ways after promising to meet up again in the future. The football was just one part of the getaway though. Team bonding in local Trattorias was also high up on the agenda, and there was plenty of Aperol and Limoncello on offer late into the night, before the ladies returned home ready to take on the second half of the season even more united.
