On 7th May 2020, the Munich Irish Rovers turns 25 years old!
Though the club was founded ten years earlier as an affiliate of TSV München Solln, it was on this day in May 1995 that the first constitution was signed by our founding members and a new, independent club was born.
Since we are unable to celebrate the occasion with a legends match and big party due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, we invite you all to a “virtual pitch” to help raise some money for a good cause!
Virtual Legends match
With the help of Rovers members Matt Hardy and Aido Patton, we have digitally created the current First Team and a Legends XI squad, starring some of our greatest and most committed players from the past and present, for a charity eSports match on PES 2020 on the PS4.
The game, which will last 30 minutes and will be controlled completely by the CPU, kicks off at 20:00 CEST on Thursday, 7th May on PES 2020 and will be live streamed on the Rovers’ YouTube channel and Facebook page.
Supporting a good cause
As part of our celebrations, we have chosen to support the Omid Foundation, a Munich-based charity that aims to give humanitarian aid to people around the world who live under deteriorating living conditions, particularly children and youths.
Specifically, funds raised will directly support efforts to help families that are particularly struck by the Corona crisis in the town of Kaolack, Senegal. These families will be supplied with basic food (rice, oil, onions) by helpers from a network organised by Omid Foundation and Gabi Canavan.
Gabi has a long history with the Rovers, as wife of former player and board member Timo and dedicated club photographer. In recent years, she has been the driving force in a project in Baria, Senegal, where the Club and several Rovers have been sponsoring children in need since 2018.
Any donations you can afford will be greatly appreciated!
Donations will be collected via PayPal Pools and funds transferred to Omid Foundation at the end of May. If you don’t have access to PayPal but would like to donate, let us know and we will find a solution.
We hope you can join us and please spread the word to all your friends and family! Let’s see if we can make this the most attended game in Rovers history!
